Website and e-Catalogue

The Wilson and Cousins website was redeveloped from the ground up with a custom WordPress theme, e-commerce and custom functionality. A fresh new look with highly-optimized transparent product images give a light-airy feeling to the product catalogue. The optimization of the images reduced their file size footprint from often over one megabyte each to a mere several kilobytes in most cases had a great impact on loading time and end-user experience.

Custom specification list functions were enhanced so that architects and other professional project specifiers could work through and choose various components to build interior fire suppression systems or provide other products. This feature also makes it helpful for department specifiers and technicians to build a list of components for upgrade and new apparatus out-rigging.

Although currently configured as a product catalogue, conversion to full e-commerce is just a few clicks away. Additionally, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) infrastructure was updated to foster an ongoing improvement process for improved ranking in Google and other search engine result pages.

The site, while not legally mandated, is also compliant with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) to the required “double-A” standard. It is also mobile-first in design and delivers the same information and far improved user experience to those engaging on hand-held devices with smaller screens and lower bandwidth access along with traditional desktop users.

The project is an Insignis Design hosted custom WordPress development project with security enhancements. The overall outcome is a faster, more searchable and mobile-friendly result for Wilson and Cousins core target market.
